I had always wondered about this memorial near the junction of Brigade road and Residency road whenever I crossed this area. Especially when I noticed the letterings in Tamil.
So i did a search and found out that this is the Sapper war memorial -built in 1928, dedicated to the 350 officers and soldiers of the Madras Pioneers who died in the battlefield during world war 1. The monument is four sided and each side is dedicated to a theatre of war they fought in.
