'Photographic Views in Madurai 'by Linnaeus Tripe in 1858.Every Madurai-vaasi wud have roamed around "Vilakku Thoon" area.But most may not know the history behind the name...It comes from the 'Blackburne Column'...an iron column surmounted by a lamp.It was erected in memory of John Blackburne, Collector of Madurai (1835 to 1848).
