A day at The Phi Phi Islands

Our team's plan for the 2nd day in Thailand was a day trip to The Phi Phi islands. The Phi phi are a group of 6 islands about 46km southeast of Phuket. The islands are famous for coral reefs, white sandy beaches, limestone rocks with cliffs, caves and marine activities like scuba diving and snorkeling. The islands became popular worldwide after the release of the 2000 film 'The Beach' that was shot here. If you have watched the 1974 James Bond film ' Man with the golden gun', you can spot one of these islands.Perhaps the first film shot here!

The trip started from Phuket on a Speed boat with a capacity of 30 . It was my first ride on such a boat..it was a bumpy ride that took almost an hour to reach the islands. Once we reached we took a ride on one of the local long tail boats that took us close to the shallow waters and limestone rocks and viking caves. We had a short swim in the shallow crystal clear waters before returning back to our speedboat.

We were dropped at Phi phi Don for the scuba dives and lunch. The island has an overdose of tourists and tourist activities!  A good walk in the shopping market street made us hungry. The Thai lunch arranged in one local restaurant by our tour guide was not appealing and so we found an alternate restaurant 'Pirates House' that served Indian food as well. We ended the afternoon with dessert - the local coconut icecream that was served with Mangoes and flowers!

With great memories, we said good bye to the islands and sped our way back to Phuket by evening.

    1. Thanks for your photos. What incredible beauties nature creates. It's wonderful that you were able to explore the island
It's also wonderful that you were able to swim in the sea.
I saw the movie "The Beach". It's a shame that film locations are being commercialized. Very often, not enough attention is paid to cultural history or the uniqueness of nature.
But of course I also wished I could see an island like this once in my life!!!
I would have taken the ice cream too :-))
We have an Indian restaurant in town... delicious food. I like.
