Visit to Raan Jay Fai

When we decided to try some authentic Thai food, our Hotel boss Varun Chibber and designer Rohit gave us a unanimous recommendation of a Thai street food joint called Raan Jay Fai..a Michelin Awarded restaurant and listed by the world's 50 best!

The joint is run by Jay Fai , an elderly lady. The place is small and one should be prepared for a long waiting que in general. Luckly we reached early and could get a table in 30 min, but had to wait for the food for another 30min.

Customers are warned in advance about the long wait

Crab omelette

This came to us by mistake!

Our first order was the highly recommended Crab omelette - stuffed with lots of juicy carb meat.  We got exited when it arrived and started clicking pictures when the waitress suddenly came back and took it away without a word. Only then we realised it was meant for another table! Finally our order arrived in another 20 minutes ...The carb omelette was very good but nothing extraordinary.

My colleagues tried few other stuff like the tom yum dish.. The food overall was very good but I could not understand the hype. The ambience was ordinary , service was slow and almost rude and the cost was also on a very high side for a street joint.

Many tourists add this experience as a must do in Bangkok and hence one can understand the over hype and pricing!

Croc meat

Whats a Thailand trip without a little foodventure!  I tried Crocodile meat for the first time... there was indeed an initial hesitation but once I got into it... it tasted surprisingly good!  They had grilled it with a strong sauce that carried the taste. The meat was soft and mildly chewy. Anyone visiting Bangkok must try 😀
