As Kabul falls today to Taliban, my memories go back to my days spent in Afghanistan (2004-06) in the rebuilding efforts after the war. My heart goes out to the beautiful Afghan people known for their love for Hindustan!
Two of the most important projects for the US army corps I was involved were the KMTC (Kabul military training centre) & MEPS (military entry processing station). These were campuses to recruit and train afghan soldiers by the US. The way the afghan government military surrendered without a fight leaves me wondering - was it worth it all and what training really happened here?
Geopolitics is more complicated than we imagine..especially when it comes to Afghanistan.
Wonderful photos. I too an saddened by what is happening there.
ReplyDeleteIt is a sad day and I hope there will be no suffering, especially for the women of Afghanistan.
ReplyDeletehumaity is lost in the void of terrorism. prayers for the suffering people there...
ReplyDeleteI am with you. The sights on TV make me so sad. I feel so bad for the people of that country.
ReplyDeleteI thank you for your service. It is sad to see what is happening now after people like you worked so hard to bring about a different outcome.
ReplyDeleteYes Myrna. I had worked on Kabul university rebuilding, hospitals, schools for nurses, training centres for midwives, etc. Every work done by so many people like me, in the past 2 decades seem meaningless now...
DeleteIt's a difficult thing to go through and for us to watch with great regret.
ReplyDeleteIt is sad, especially for people like you who helped to rebuild the country. It seems like a great waste.
ReplyDeleteI am greatly saddened by what is happening and have been following the news. My heart is with them. Thank you for sharing your life and photos from Afghanistan.
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful photos and memories as well. I don't know what to think -- was it worth it? I don't know. For a while, yes. I really feel for the Afghan people who are left really stuck and stranded -- and in their own homeland. Thank you for all you did.
ReplyDeleteWhat is happening there is sad. It is the civilians that will be suffering in their own homeland.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed what you wrote and the photos and most of all I am aghast so to speak at what has transpired with our horrible leadership and what they have done to these people and also leaving behind so much of their equipment. I just imagine the whole world is shocked at how this went down. I hope people in our country our waking up. It seems so many just accept what they are being told.
ReplyDeleteAll man-power, money, efforts gone down the drain. Wish there was a planned and systematic approach to withdrawal of the troops.
ReplyDeleteand I too recall the time you spend there -- not able to enjoy the local bread :-)
ReplyDeleteHeartbreaking and impossible to understand. What did we do there?
