Raja's album 1946 - Part 09 - Singapore

We come to the last part of the album that has a collection of photographs of Singapore from the 1940s. Anyone who has seen the modern Singapore will greatly appreciate these vintage snaps that take us back by 75 years!

Originally known as the Edinburgh Bridge to commemorate the visit of the Duke of Edinburgh, its name was changed to Cavenagh Bridge in honour of Major General Orfeur Cavenagh, the last India-appointed Governor of the Straits Settlements, who governed from 1859 to 1867

  8. These are fabulous pictures - the architecture is wonderful of the mosque. We went to Singapore many years ago but didn't see some of these beautiful buildings, we left with an impression of everything being very modern and newly built so this was a nice view from another time/angle.

  11. Wow, what a wonderful set of photographs. It's like a trip back in time.
    Most of the buildings are still around, though the surroundings have changed a lot. The Telok Ayer Basin is now all tall skyscrapers.
