Visiting Paragon restaurant in Bangalore was a long pending bucketlist item... I have tasted their amazing food in their hometown of Calicut almost a decade ago and more recently at Cochin. But our past few attempts to try food here in Bangalore failed as we always landed late at the restaurant (curse Bangalore traffic) and the waiting list was so huge...
but today we decided to start very early and managed to get a seat to our delight...
The restaurant is located at 1 Sobha at the St Marks road. 1 Sobha is a Retail building I had designed when I was working with Sobha developers ltd. It was probably my last project for Sobha. I had moved out of Sobha when the building was in construction stage and unfortunately could not see it complete under my watch. But none the less, i was happy to see it finished well by my old team...
My wife started with the sweet and spicy raw mango salad. I did not enjoy it much...but better to go with your wife's starter choices at restaurants 😉. Then she ordered veg ball Manchurian...again not the right choice here. On the sea food side, we tried their butter garlic Prawns. It was presented nicely...but the taste was just OK. We went for mutton biriyani...that did not disappoint. It was the classic Calicut style mildly flavored biriyani serverd with green chutney, dates chutney, curd Raitha and Appalam.
I tried the tender coconut fruit smoothie that was really good. But the day was saved by the elaneer payasam that i ordered for dessert. It was lip smacking. The hot ghee payasam with ice cream that my wife ordered was just ok when compared with the elaneer payasam.
The food was good overall, but I somehow felt that the taste I had got in the Paragon that I had visited years ago in Calicut is not the same today here in bangalore. Now the crowd has swelled, the brand has become big and the branches are run like factories. In that growth, there is definitely a mild compromise on the taste...

ReplyDeleteSorry the food wasn't as good as you were hoping for. It does look good.
Although you were a little disappointed, the food looks very good in your photographs here.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Lovely great food
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful experience it must have been to finally visit Paragon in Bangalore after so many attempts! The food at Paragon seems to have been well worth the wait, and it’s wonderful that you could enjoy it in such a meaningful location. How special it must feel to see a building you worked on come to life, even if you weren’t there to see it through to completion. It’s great that your old team carried it forward so well. A wonderful mix of personal and culinary satisfaction!
ReplyDeleteI invite you to read my new blog post: melodyjacob.com. Have a lovely week ahead.
The food does look well-presented and a shame you were not wrapped in the food but that happens.
