World of Mysore Pak

The World of Mysore Pak situated on Chamundi Hills Road is an experiential store devoted to Mysore pak. They offer 11 varieties here: roasted almond, carrot, cashew, mango, figs, milk, millet, jaggery millet, jaggery, traditional and special Mysore pak. We made a pitstop here on our way back to Bangalore and the store gave us a brief tour on the preparation inside their display kitchen. This is a fully women owned venture set in a 8000 square feet space. The central display island is full of  staff who eagerly give you samples to taste.

Mysore pak was invented quite by accident. Or so the story goes.... King Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar (1894-1940) of Mysore was expecting special guests, and asked his royal cook, Kakasura Madappa to make a special dish. After some thought, the cook added gram flour, ghee and sugar to a large pan and cooked them together and served it to the king. It was a hit. Wodeyar then decided that everyone must try the sweet and named it Mysore Pak - Mysore from the city and Pak being short for pakka (sugar syrup in Kannada).
