Today is the birth anniversary of the Tamil Queen Velu Natchiyar of Sivagangai province (b. 1730 - d.1796). She was the first Indian Queen to wage war against the British East India company. She was well trained in warfare and martial arts ..and also was a scholar in many languages including Urdu, English and French. Her confrontations with the British are epic stuff. Unfortunately she has not received the recognition due for her in Indian history books as compared to another legendary queen Lakshmi bai, the rani of Jhansi (1828-58).
My Painting was inspired by Actor and Theatre artist TM Karthik's photo series.
Feel proud of our brave Rani Velu Natchiyar!

année 2023 🌈
In every country, history books have a way of being selective about the past. Time for someone to write a good account of her life. There's your challenge for 2023, Ashok.
